Another day, another rumour about Tee Higgins, the wide receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Higgins requested a trade last month, but the Bengals don’t seem interested in moving him, thus the two teams are at a standstill. According to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, there have been “internal discussions” about a trade for Higgins by the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is the most recent rumour.
Higgins is unlikely to be traded to a division rival by the Bengals, and the likelihood of such a deal occurring is essentially negligible. To trade him to any club, the Bengals would probably need to get an unbelievable offer, but before the Bengals would even take the call, an AFC North team would probably need to make a historic offer.
It is unlikely that any deal will materialise because trading for Higgins would involve agreeing to give up a significant amount of draft capital and paying him a hefty contract with large sums of guaranteed money.
The fact that trading for Higgins would require giving up substantial draft capital and agreeing to pay him a massive contract with large amounts of guaranteed money makes it unlikely that any deal would come to fruition.
Of course, in that situation, Higgins has to choose to play for nearly $21 million in one year or forgo that money and sit out the season.
If you’re looking for a good laugh, just close your eyes and imagine what Duke Tobin would say if Pittsburgh called about Higgins.
